This is the exact same downloading apps on firestick i am having. I have 3 firesticks all of them second generation and I have 4 fire TVs and all of them second generation. I am unable to get the Amazon app store on any of tbem, downloading apps on firestick. And most apps that I try to download it says downloading not supported at this time.
Only thing Downloading apps on firestick can think of is my tv is not a smart tv it is just an HD tv and using my firesticks or fire tv's is what makes it a smart tv.

Are you not able to download any apps, not even apps from the store? If you are having trouble downloading any apps outside the store, using Downloader for example, you will need to go into settings an enable third party apps.
